Egypt extends medal tally to 49 in Mediterranean Games

ORAN, Algeria – Egyptian athletes bagged six more medals (two gold and four bronze) to their 2022 Mediterranean Games tally.

Egypt’s medal tally has gone up to 49 medals, including 13 gold, 14 silver and 22 bronze medals after day 10 in Algeria’s Oran.

The medals left the country to six in the medals table behind leaders Italy, Turkey, France, Algeria and Spain.

Up to 3,390 athletes from 26 Mediterranean countries are taking part in the games, with Egypt participating with 184 athletes in 19 sports.

The medals of the Egyptian mission on Monday were as follows:

Fencer Mohamed el-Sayed snagged the gold medal for the sword competitions after defeating the Italian champion in the final 15-13.

Taekwondo player Seif Issa grabbed the gold medal in the 80kg competitions after defeating the Spanish champion in the final 7-4.

Weightlifter Ahmed Ali won the bronze medal in the 102kg competitions.

Taekwondo female player Aya Shehata claimed the bronze -67 kg competitions after losing in the semi-finals to the Croatian champion 8-5.

Weightlifter Ahmed Gaber snatched the snatch and clean bronze medals in the +120kg competitions.

With a new record of 22.47 seconds at the Mediterranean Games, Egyptian sprinter Bassant Hemida made history by clinching her second gold medal at the tournament.

Bassant won her second gold medal in the 200m sprint events, two days after snatching gold in the 100m sprint.

Egyptian champion, Neama Said clinched the snatch and clean gold medals in the 71kg weightlifting competitions.

Ashrakat Darwish got the silver medal in the taekwondo competition in the -57kg.

Ziad el-Sisi was crowned with the gold medal at the saber fencing competitions.

Mohamed Talaat claimed the bronze medal in the individual equestrian competitions.

Weightlifter Karim Kahla was crowned with the snatch and clean silver medals in the 89kg competitions.

Taekwondo player Shahd al-Hussaini won bronze in the 49kg competitions.

Weightlifter Basma Ibrahim snatched a bronze medal in the 59kg competitions.

Ihab Abdel Rahman grabbed the silver medal in the javelin throw competitions.

Boxer Yousry Hafez won the gold medal in the +91kg competitions.

Weightlifter Ahmed Abdel-Ghani claimed two silver medals in the 61kg competitions.

Israa Awais got the silver medal in the long jump in the athletics competitions.

The equestrian team won the silver medal in the team competitions.

Mohamed Taher Ziada, Mohamed Tareq Talaat, Mohamed al-Najjar and Mohamed Weam represented the Egyptian team.

Youmna Ayyad bagged the bronze medal in the women’s 54kg boxing competition.

Bassant Hemida claimed the women’s 100m gold in athletics competitions.

Mohamed Magdy won bronze medal in the shot put of the athletics competitions.

Weightlifter Ahmed Ali (1stR) won the bronze medal in the 102kg competitions.

Omar Asr grabbed the men’s singles silver medal in table tennis competitions.

Boxer Omar el-Sayed gained he bronze medal in the men’s 69kg competition after losing to the Montenegro champion in the semi-final match.

Boxer Youmna Ayyad took the bronze medal in the women’s 54 kg competition after losing to the Turkish champion in the semi-final match.

Doha Hani won the bronze medal at the women’s badminton singles competition.

Egyptian women’s table tennis team won the gold medal after defeating Italy in the final.

karatekas Youssef Badawy took the gold medal in the competitions’ 84kg category after defeating his Serbian opponent in the final.

Rahman Omar won a bronze medal in the competitions of 67kg category after defeating his Portuguese opponent.

Wrestler Noureddine Hassan claimed a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman competitions of 87kg category after defeating his Portuguese opponent.

Greco-Roman wrestler Haithem Fahmy got a bronze medal in the competitions of 60kg category stunning his Croatian opponent.

Wrestler Abdel Latif Manea won a silver medal in the Greco-Roman competitions of 130kg category stunning his Croatian opponent.

Abdullah Mamdouh grabbed the silver medal in the Karate competitions’ 75kg category.

The national Karate team earned two silver medals via Reem Ahmed and Ahlam Youssef, while Abdullah Mamdouh, Ahmed Ayman and Amr Alaa won the bronze ones.

Reem Ahmed snatched the silver medal in the Karate competitions’ 50kg category.

Ahlam Youssef claimed Egypt’s second silver medal in the Karate competitions -55kg category.

Abdullah Mamdouh grabbed the bronze medal in the Karate competitions’ -75kg category.

Ahmed Ayman won the bronze medal in the Karate competitions’ -67kg category.
