The Egyptian national handball team secured a dominant victory over Gabon in their opening match of the African Men’s Handball Championship, currently being held in Rwanda.
From the start, the Pharaohs demonstrated their clinical edge, ending the first half with a comfortable 19–14 lead.
They continued to pull away in the second half, eventually sealing the game with a final score of 36–25 to earn their first two points of the tournament as they aim to defend their continental title for the fourth consecutive time.

The team arrived in Rwanda two days ago and held their final training sessions under the guidance of Spanish head coach Juan Carlos Pastor, who has focused on maintaining the team’s peak physical and tactical form. Competing in Group B alongside Gabon, Angola, and Uganda, Egypt is looking to maintain this momentum.
They are scheduled to face Angola tomorrow, January 22, at 3:00 PM, followed by a final group match against Uganda on January 24 at 1:00 PM.

Off the court, the mission is led by Captain Khaled Fathy, President of the Egyptian Handball Federation, who has worked extensively to remove any obstacles facing the squad.
This included coordinating with the African Handball Confederation to change the team’s hotel, ensuring the highest standards of accommodation and subsistence to provide the players with the focus needed to pursue the championship trophy.

The squad representing Egypt features a deep roster of talent across all positions. The goalkeeping duties are shared by Mohamed Ali, Mohamed Essam El-Tayar, and Abdelrahman Humaid. The offensive and defensive lines are bolstered by stars such as Yehia Khaled, Ali Zein, and Ibrahim El-Masry, alongside playmakers Yehia and Seif El-Deraa, ensuring a formidable presence throughout the competition.
