The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) named on Wednesday the Portuguese coach, Carlos Queiroz, to lead the Egyptian national team, following Hossam El-Badry, who was sacked by the association on Monday.
The 68-year-old tactician won the U-20 World Cup twice with Portugal at the start of his coaching career in 1989 and 1991. He also won the Portuguese Cup with Sporting Lisbon in the 1994-1995 and the Portuguese Super Cup with the same team in 1995-1996 season.
Further, the Portuguese tactician was the assistant manager for Manchester United with the legendary coach Alex Fergusson for four seasons. The new coach led Real Madrid for a single season in 2003-2004 and won the Spanish Super Cup.
Concerning the national teams, the Portuguese tactician coached his country national team shortly after his great success with the U-20 team and was also named by the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to lead their national teams in the late 90s.
The only African experiment for the Portuguese coach was with the South African national team from May 2001 to March 2002. He also coached the Iranian national team from 2011 until 2019, before leaving to Colombia to head the national team until December 2020.
