CAIRO – Egyptian giants Zamalek finished preparations in readiness for their match against Dreams FC of Ghana in the first-leg of CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals on Sunday at Cairo International Stadium at 6:00pm Cairo Local Time.
The White Knights moved into the last four by dispatching fellow Egyptian side Modern Future FC with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
The Ghanaian club eliminated Stade Malien of Mali in the quarter-finals, advancing on a 3-2 aggregate after winning 2-1 in the first leg before drawing 1-1 at home in the return match.
Zamalek (Egypt), Dreams FC (Ghana), USM Alger (Algeria), and RS Berkane (Morocco) are the remaining contenders vying for the prestigious CAF Confederation Cup title.
Among these teams, three boast previous championship triumphs, totaling four titles.
Reigning champions USM Alger will strive to defend their title against two-time winners RSB Berkane, the 2019/20 and 2021/22 champions.
Dreams FC coach Karim Zito remains undaunted by the challenge posed by Zamalek, noting that reaching the final is not an impossible feat.
Expressing full confidence in his team’s abilities, Zito believes they can extend their remarkable journey by overcoming the former champions.
“It sounds frightening and so difficult but I can tell you it is not impossible,” Zito emphasized.
“We have to work on our attitude towards that game and I can tell you we will surely get what we want there,” he affirmed on GPL Xpress.
“They [supporters] should not be worried. We know the quality of Zamalek but they should not also look down on Dreams FC. Nobody thought we would reach this stage. We need support,” Zito added.
