The stage is set for a thrilling weekend of African club football as the first-leg semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup take centre stage across the continent, with the remaining clubs one step away from a prestige continental final.

With four of Africa’s finest clubs battling for supremacy in each competition, the race for continental glory intensifies as teams look to seize early advantage ahead of the decisive return legs next week.

Africa’s premier club competition, the CAF Champions League, headlines the weekend with two high-profile encounters that promise intensity.

In Tunisia, Espérance Sportive de Tunis host South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday (kick-off 19h00 GMT) in a clash between two of the continent’s most consistent and experienced sides in recent years. Both clubs have established themselves as regular contenders, setting up what is expected to be a tightly contested encounter in Rades.

Meanwhile, there is a historic all-Moroccan semi-final as AS FAR face RS Berkane in the first leg in Rabat on Saturday (19h00 GMT). With a place in the final guaranteed for a Moroccan club, both teams will be eager to take control of the tie.

The CAF Champions League continues to grow in stature, with a record total prize money of USD 48 million allocated for this season. The eventual winners will receive a record USD 6 million, underlining the competition’s increasing global significance and commercial strength.

The CAF Confederation Cup also promises compelling action, with both semi-final ties featuring strong North African rivalries.

In Algiers, CR Belouizdad welcome Egypt’s Zamalek SC on Friday (19h00 GMT) 7pm (CLT) in a clash that pits Algerian ambition against Egyptian pedigree. Zamalek, one of Africa’s most decorated clubs, will be aiming to assert their experience, while Belouizdad look to continue their impressive resurgence on the continental stage.

Elsewhere, USM Alger host Morocco’s Olympique Club de Safi on Saturday (16h00 GMT) in another highly anticipated encounter. Both sides have shown resilience throughout the competition and will be aiming to take a crucial step towards the final.

The winners of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will take home USD 4 million, reflecting the growing importance of the competition in African club football.

With the margins at this stage often fine, the first-leg matches are expected to deliver a weekend of high-quality football and unforgettable moments.
