NEW YORK — Brady Tkachuk scored on the power play in overtime to complete a hat trick and Joonas Korpisalo made 30 saves to help Ottawa Senators stunned New York Islanders 4-3.
Ridly Greig also scored for Ottawa, which won its third straight game after losing seven in a row.
Tyler Toffoli, elsewhere, scored his first two goals with Winnipeg Jets as Laurent Brossoit stopped 21 shots for his second shutout of the season in the Jets’ 6-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks.
Jets defenseman Dylan DeMelo snapped a 63-game goal-scoring drought and added an assist, and Kyle Connor, Nate Schmidt and Mason Appleton also scored for Winnipeg. Josh Morrissey had three assists and Nikolaj Ehlers added two for the Jets, who´ve alternated wins and losses their past five games.
Toffoli was playing his third game with the Jets since being acquired from New Jersey at the trade deadline.
“Definitely a special moment and, obviously, nice to get my first one here and, hopefully, keep rolling,” said Toffoli, who now has 28 goals and 46 points in 64 games this season.
“I should have had four or five there by the end of it. You know what; it was one of those games I thought we played really well. It was just a matter of time before we started kind of piling some on,” Toffoli added according to AP.
Elsewhere, The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with Swedish goaltender Hugo Ollas on a two-year, entry-level contract.
General manager Chris Drury announced the deal on Friday with the 21-year-old who appeared in 21 games for Merrimack College this season, posting a 2.84 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.
He played three seasons and 64 games for the Warriors, compiling a 27-27 record, 2.48 GAA, a .914 save percentage and six shutouts.
In 2022-23, he had a 10-9 record, .915 save percentage and collected five shutouts.
Before attending Merrimack, Ollas appeared in 11 games in 2020-21 in the Swedish Hockey League. He also competed for the Swedish U17 team in international play.
Anze Kopitar, meanwhile, scored two of Los Angeles’ four goals in the first period, as the Kings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-0.
Pierre-Luc Dubois, Alex Laferriere and Jordan Spence each had a goal and an assist to help Los Angeles rebound from a 3-1 loss at St. Louis. The Kings strengthened their hold on third place in the Pacific Division and a Western Conference playoff spot.
“Two points in October are the same as two points in March, but you can really see the difference two points can mean in the standings,” Dubois said.
“Still a lot of hockey to be played, but we’re happy with a result like tonight.”
Cam Talbot made 28 saves in his third shutout of the season and No. 31 for his career.
“It was great to get off to the lead, but what we saw was Talbs had to make two or three big saves early,” Kings interim coach Jim Hiller said. “So credit the goalie there and nice to see the puck goes in for us.”
Kopitar, the Kings’ 36-year-old captain, recorded his 19th and 20th goals off pinpoint cross-ice passes by 21-year-old Quinton Byfield. He reached the 20-goal mark for the 13th time in 18 seasons.
Kopitar, the Kings’ career leader in games played (1,358) and assists (783), almost added another goal when he was on a 2-on-1 in the second period, but he decided to pass.
