CAIRO – Defending champions Al-Ahly was hit by defeat as Zamalek and Pyramids FC claimed victories in their matches at 13th matchday of the 2021-2022 Egyptian Premier League season.
Al-Ahly went down to a 1-0 loss at Al-Masry of Port Said at the Borg el-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
The Port Said-based club goal came from Tunisian defender Haythem Ayouni in the 8th minute.
The victory, the first over Ahly since 2016, pushed Al-Masry to 6th place with 19 points from 13 matches as the Red Devils remained on top of the domestic league with 31 points from 12 matches and has a game in hand.
Elsewhere, Zamalek stunned Misr el-Maqassa 1-0 at the Military Academy Stadium in Cairo.
The White Knights’ sole goal came from midfielder Emam Ashour in the 43rd minute.
The precious win moved Zamalek joint top level with Al-Ahly on 31 points, although the latter still has a game in hand.
Misr el-Maqassa stayed in 17th place (second from bottom) with nine points from 13 matches.
At the Air Defence Stadium in Cairo, Pyramids FC thumped Ghazl el-Mahalla 1-0.
Striker Ibrahim Adel scored the decisive goal in the 82nd minute.
The result kept Pyramids FC in third place at the standing with 29 points from 13 matches as Ghazl el-Mahalla remained at 14th place with 13 points from 13 matches.
At the same week, Pharco FC was held to a 2-2 draw against NBE Club at the Alexandria Stadium.
Striker Nasser Mansi scored for NBE Club in the 57th minute as right-winger Walid Farag scored the equaliser for Pharco FC in the 59th minute.
Pharco’s central midfielder Mahmoud Hamada added the second in the 86th minute as NBE Club grabbed the equaliser through striker Mohamed Helal in the 89h minute.
The result pushed NBE Club to 7th place with 18 points from 13 matches as Pharco FC stayed in 8th place with 17 points from 13 matches.
At El-Gouna Stadium, Arab Contractors defeated El-Gouna FC 2-1.
Left-winger Mahmoud el-Shabrawi scored the opening for El-Gouna in the 59th minute as striker Ahmed Ali grabbed the equaliser for Arab Contractors in the 67th minute.
Mauritanian centre-forward Mamadou Niass claimed the winner for the Contractors in the 73rd minute.
The win pushed Arab Contractors to 15th place with 11 points from 13 matches as El-Gouna remained at 12th place with 14 points from 12 matches.
