The Red Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw against El-Dakhleya at Al-Ahly Stadium in the Egyptian League.

The two goals were scored in the second half. Al-Ahly took the lead in the 70th minute and the visitors equalised in the last minute of the regular time.

There was very little danger created in the first half, which was played with little pace from both sides.

The Red Eagles didn’t manage to create many chances and it was clear that the players are suffering in the final third but they kept pushing for the opener through Percy Tau, Taher Mohamed Taher and Ahmed Kendouci.

Mohamed el-Shenawy was the best player in the first half with some brilliant saves.

Three changes at half time with Ali Maaloul, Aliou Dieng and Mohamed Sherif entering the field as coach Marcel Koller was aiming to boost our attacking options.

Al-Ahly players enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and piled on the pressure to score the opening goal but the visitors’ defenders stood their ground.

In the 70th minute, Kahraba received the ball on the edge of the box and decided to shoot the ball which went past the goalkeeper to make the score 1-0.

After taking the lead, Al-Ahly had many chances to double the score through Sherif and Mohamed Magdy Afsha who joined the game to replace Taher.

El-Dakhleya was then reduced to ten men when Ahmed Abdelrasoul was sent off after denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. The referee gave him a yellow card and awarded us a penalty but he changed his decision following a VAR check.

Despite having a one-player advantage, Al-Ahly conceded a late goal from Rashid Ahmed after a perfect counter-attack from the visitors.

Despite the draw,  Al-Ahly still atop of the table with 41 points.
