Al-Ahly and Zamalek stumble in Egyptian Premier League

Cairo giants, Al-Ahly and Zamalek, were held to a goalless draws as Smouha and Ghazl El-Mahalla claimed victories at 13th matchday of the 2022/2023 Egyptian Premier League season.

At Alexandria’s Borg el-Arab Stadium, Al-Ahly was held to a 0-0 draw against Al-Masry of Port Said.

The draw left the Red Devils on top of the domestic league table with 31 points from 13 matches.

Al-Masry of Port Said remained at 8th place with 18 points from 13 matches.

Elsewhere, defending champions Zamalek extended their winless run to three matches as they dropped two points against Al-Ittihad of Alexandria after held to a goalless draw.

The result dropped the White Knights to 3rd place with 26 points from 13 matches as the Alexandrian-based club stayed in 6th place with 19 points from 13 matches.

At Alexandria Stadium, Smouha snatched a 2-1 win over Talae el-Geish.

Striker Hossam Hassan scored twice in the 24th and 80th minutes respectively as Ahmed Ayman scored El-Geish sole goal in the 49th minute.

The victory pushed Smouha to 11th place with 13 points from 13 matches as Talae el-Geish dropped into 12th place with 12 points from 12 matches.

Elsewhere, Ghazl El-Mahalla defeated Enppi 1-0 at Ghazl El-Mahalla Stadium.

The game winner came from Nigerian forward Gabriel Orok in the 37th minute.

Ghazl El-Mahalla is now 5th in the standing with 21 points from 13 matches as Enppi dropped into 17th place with 10 points from 13 matches.

Meanwhile, Pyramids FC claimed a valuable draw against Future FC at Cairo’s Al-Salam Stadium.

Future FC opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute as striker Ibrahim Adel grabbed the equaliser in the 81th minute.

The draw left Future FC to 2nd place at the table with 27 points from 13 matches as Pyramids FC slipped to 4th place with 24 points from 13 games.

In the same week, El-Dakhleya was held to a 3-3 draw against NBE Club at the Suez Stadium.

NBE striker Mohamed Hilal scored twice in the 34th and 89th minutes respectively as left winger Moussa Diawara scored in the 66th minute.

El-Dakhleya’s goals came from Samir Fekri in the 42nd minute, Barakat Hagag in the 52 minute and Moustafa Fawzi in the 70the minute.

The result pushed NBE Club to 14th place with 12 points from 13 matches as El-Dakhleya stayed in 15th place with 10 points from 13 games.
