CAIRO – The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has officially placed the upcoming Foil World Cup in Egypt on hold, along with two other major international events in Italy and Greece, citing regional developments and reaffirming its commitment to the safety and well-being of all participants.
The Foil World Cup, originally scheduled to take place from March 5–8 at the Cairo International Stadium Indoor Halls Complex, will be rescheduled as a precautionary measure amid the current situation in the region.
In addition, the FIE has postponed the Men’s Sabre World Cup in Italy and the Women’s Sabre World Cup in Greece – both set for March 6 to 8 – are also postponed.
FIE emphasised that calling things off for now is simply the right thing to do, especially with all the uncertainty around travel, airport closures, and possible flight cancellations. Athletes, coaches, officials, and all the administrative teams – their safety comes first.
The FIE confirmed it will continue to closely monitor developments and coordinate with the respective organising committees to determine new dates once conditions stabilise.
