The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Regional Training Centre for Aviation Security, located within the EgyptAir Training Academy, recently celebrated the successful completion of a specialised “Cargo and Airmail Security” training course.
This programme was tailored specifically for a delegation of aviation security professionals from the Zambian Civil Aviation Authority.
The training was led by Khaled Fathi Ali Abdel Rahim, an ICAO-certified instructor, who focused on integrating international rules and recommendations into the participants’ operational knowledge.
The curriculum was strictly aligned with ICAO Annex 17 and the organisation’s official security manual, ensuring that the Zambian personnel are equipped with global best practices.
The comprehensive course covered a wide spectrum of essential security topics, ranging from the fundamental security context of cargo and mail to the intricacies of the secure supply chain.
Participants engaged in deep dives regarding facility security, personnel training requirements, and advanced screening techniques.
The programme also emphasised the importance of maintaining a rigorous chain of custody, supervising quality control measures, and the specialised handling of prohibited materials and dangerous goods.
This holistic approach ensures that all aspects of airmail and cargo transport remain resilient against potential security threats.
In addition to the classroom instruction, the Zambian delegation was given an extensive tour of the EgyptAir Training Academy to explore its modern training systems.
The group was introduced to the academy’s diverse programs that serve aviation professionals from across Egypt, the Arab world, and Africa.
A highlight of the visit included a detailed demonstration of the academy’s sophisticated flight simulators, which represent a variety of modern aircraft including the Airbus A320, A320neo, and A330/A340, as well as the Boeing B737-800 and B777 models.
The delegation also reviewed specialised equipment used for cabin crew training, specifically focusing on the Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) and the Cabin Service Trainer (CST).
Head of the EgyptAir Training Academy Captain Walid Soliman expressed his pride in hosting the Zambian delegation, noting that the academy continues to be a premier destination for high-level aviation training.
The ICAO Regional Centre in Cairo remains a vital resource for the industry, providing accredited courses that feature instructors and certifications recognised globally by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
The programme concluded with an official ceremony where Mohamed Abdel Fattah, Director of the ICAO Regional Centre, and Mostafa Abdel Aal, Marketing Director at the academy, presented the participants with their course completion certificates.
