Sphinx International Airport received on Tuesday the first flight of Jazeera Airways coming from Kuwait with 167 passengers on board.
Jazeera Airways is set to operate four flights a week between Sphinx and Kuwait airports.
Sphinx International Airport is located on the desert road between Cairo and Alexandria, forty-five kilometers from the pyramids of Giza. With a surface area of 4,000 m² for its main building (24,000 m² for the whole building), it is mainly dedicated to tourism.
Its two terminals are able to handle up to 900 passengers per hour.
It was built to relieve the congestion at Cairo International Airport and improve the accessibility of several nearby historical sites for tourists, as well as facilitate connections with the Red Sea resort cities; Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada in particular.
