The Sphinx International Airport received 155 passengers last week board the first Condor Airlines flight coming from Frankfurt since the airport reopened in November.
Condor Airlines is scheduled to operate two flights a week to Sphinx airport.
Upon the arrival, officials from Egyptian Airports Company and Condor and the Emeco Group for Tourism and Hotels celebrated the event.
The Sphinx airport is located on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road – 45 kilometres from the Pyramids of Giza.
The airport aims to increase tourists’ access to the under-construction Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and historical sites in the Giza area as well as reduce traffic jams in Cairo.
The Sphinx airport was reopened in November following a renovation that increased its total area from 4,500 square metres to 24,000, and its passenger throughput from 300 passengers per hour to 900.
In late February, the airport received the first Nesma Airlines from Madrid.
