Sharm El Sheikh International Airport has welcomed the first direct flight from Madrid operated by Air Cairo, carrying 156 Spanish tourists, including several journalists and travel writers. The aircraft was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute, and passengers were facilitated with a smooth and efficient arrival process.
This initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration between the Egyptian Ministries of Civil Aviation and Tourism and Antiquities to attract more tourists to Egypt and provide an exceptional experience for Spanish visitors to Sharm El Sheikh, a key destination on the global tourism map.
Among those welcoming the flight were Major General Ramah Hashem, Head of Sharm El Sheikh City; Major General Nabil Al-Mallah, Director of Sharm El Sheikh International Airport; and Dr. Islam Nabil, Supervisor of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board Office in South Sinai. The airport’s public relations team also greeted the tourists with flowers, souvenirs, and promotional materials highlighting the diverse attractions of South Sinai’s tourist destinations.
Air Cairo will continue operating direct weekly flights between Madrid and Sharm El Sheikh until October, with the potential for additional flights based on demand.
These direct flights are a significant step in supporting Egypt’s efforts to boost tourism and air travel from European cities to Egyptian destinations. Sharm El Sheikh’s natural beauty and appeal reinforce its status as a leading global tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world.
