By Mohamed Attia

Sphinx International Airport has launched a new initiative aimed at supporting the deaf and mute community, as part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity and empower people with disabilities.

The initiative reflects the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s commitment to ensuring that services cater to the specific needs of all passengers, ensuring a more inclusive experience in the aviation sector.

The initiative introduces a distinctive “Service for Deaf & Mute” identification card, featuring a symbol in sign language, which passengers can wear to help airport staff identify and assist them without the need for direct interaction. This ensures a smoother and safer travel experience for those who are deaf or mute.

To ensure effective implementation, a trained sign language specialist has been stationed at the airport’s health control area, where they assist passengers by providing them with the identification card upon arrival, facilitating seamless communication with all airport services.

This service marks the beginning of a broader plan to extend the initiative across all Egyptian airports, in line with the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s strategy.

It underscores the sector’s continued commitment to fostering an inclusive travel environment that embraces innovation and social responsibility within the aviation system.
