EgyptAir has organised a medical seminar at its headquarters to highlight the importance of blood donation.
The event was overseen by Mohamed El-Sharnoubi, Vice President of the Medical Sector at EgyptAir Medical Services, and featured Dalia Diaa El-Din Salem, Professor of Clinical Pathology and Quality Director at the Main Blood Bank of Ain Shams University Hospitals, alongside Samia Bassiouni, President of the Rotary Club Heliopolis Horus.
During the seminar, Bassiouni emphasized that blood donation is one of the most significant humanitarian initiatives, playing a crucial role in saving lives. Dalia Diaa El-Din highlighted that donating blood not only benefits patients in need of transfusions but also contributes to the donor’s well-being. Regular donation, she explained, helps regenerate cells, improve circulation, and reduce the risk of iron-related health issues. She stressed the urgent need for sufficient blood supplies in hospitals, underscoring the importance of continuous awareness campaigns to encourage regular donations.
Diaa El-Din reassured attendees that the donation process is safe, quick, and conducted under full medical supervision. She noted that scientific research has shown regular blood donation can enhance cardiovascular health, promote the production of new red blood cells, and lower excess iron levels in the body, reducing the risk of related diseases.
El-Sharnoubi expressed gratitude to all participants and donors, announcing that 50% of the collected blood bags would be allocated to EgyptAir Hospital’s blood bank. “Through the generosity and co-operation of donors, we demonstrate that giving can become a way of life,” he said.
