ITA Airways, the national carrier of Italy, has received official approval to begin the process of joining the Star Alliance, and is expected to become a full member at the beginning of 2026.
This decision follows the airline’s integration into the Lufthansa Group, paving the way for its entry into the world’s largest airline alliance.
The CEO of Star Alliance stated that ITA’s membership will strengthen the global network and provide smoother travel options for passengers, while ITA’s CEO expressed pride in joining the alliance and bringing Italian-quality products to a global level.
ITA is expected to add around 360 daily flights to the alliance network, particularly from Rome and Milan, enhancing the alliance’s presence in Europe. The Lufthansa Group will guide ITA through the joining process, making it the fifth airline from the group to become part of Star Alliance.
