Geneva – Willie Walsh, Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), announced that the strong upward trend in passenger traffic is continuing, with global passenger traffic up 28.4 per cent in August 2023 compared to August 2022.
The report, which was released by IATA on the performance of demand and passenger traffic in August 2023, showed that the aviation industry has fully recovered and that airlines are now focusing on meeting the increasing demand from businesses and individuals for additional flights. The industry is also committed to securing a sustainable long-term future by achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Middle East carriers saw traffic rise 27.3 per cent in August 2023 compared to the same month last year, capacity rose 22.7 per cent, and load factor was 83.1 per cent, up 3.0 percentage points.
African carriers saw traffic rise 26.1 per cent in August 2023 compared to the same month last year, capacity rose 25.5 per cent, and load factor was 76.2 per cent, up 0.4 percentage points.
Asia-Pacific carriers saw traffic rise 98.5 per cent in August 2023 compared to August 2022, continuing to lead the regions, capacity rose 85.5 per cent, and load factor was 84.2 per cent, up 5.5 percentage points.
European carriers saw traffic rise 13.6 per cent in August 2023 compared to August 2022, capacity rose 12.3 per cent, and load factor was 86.8 per cent, up 1.1 percentage points.
North American carriers saw traffic rise 18.6 per cent in August 2023 compared to August 2022, capacity rose 17.5 per cent, and load factor was 87.7 per cent, up 0.8 percentage points, the highest among regions for the third consecutive month.
Latin American carriers saw traffic rise 26.4 per cent compared to the same month in 2022, capacity rose 23.8 per cent in August, and load factor rose 1.7 percentage points to 80.1 per cent.
