Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Lieutenant General Mohamed Abbas said that EgyptAir is working on the expansion of the airline network, to accommodate the increase in operation and demand, which witnessed a noticeable increase during the current period and the period that followed the coronavirus crisis.

The minister revealed that the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority has taken a series of measures for airspace planning and restructuring air routes to become more attractive to air traffic. He said that it is planned to be completed within a year.

Minister Abbas’ remarks came during the annual Iftar ceremony of the Egyptian Pilots Association, during which he congratulated the Egyptian pilots on the holy fasting month of Ramadan, expressing his appreciation for the efforts of the Egyptian Airlines Pilots Association to improve services provided to customers.

The minister of civil aviation stressed the need to unite in order to overcome the challenges facing the aviation industry in general and the Egyptian civil aviation in particular.

Minister Abbas pointed out that a safety committee was formed, in preparation for completing the requirements and procedures for the expected International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) inspection during 2023.

For his part, head of the Egyptian Pilots Association Ali Rushdi confirmed that the iftar banquet is a great opportunity to meet at one table with one goal, which is to build bridges of communication and interdependence between generations of pilots.

The move was meant to upgrade the aviation sector that represents the locomotive of development and the backbone of the national economy.

Captain Khaled Refaat, Vice chairman of the Association, said that the Egyptian Pilots Association is one of the effective and influential links in the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA). He pointed out that the annual iftar is an opportunity for young generations to communicate and transfer experiences between pilots.

Following the iftar ceremony, the Egyptian Pilots Association honoured Minister Abbas and a group of retired Egyptian pilots. The association was founded in 1967.
