By Mohamed Attia

Minister of Civil Aviation Samah el-Hefny emphasised that the Egyptian state attaches special importance to investment in the civil aviation sector, considering it one of the main drivers of economic development and a key factor in attracting foreign investments.

He praised the deep-rooted relations between Egypt and Greece, especially in the fields of infrastructure and renewable energy, emphasising the importance of making use of international expertise in the aviation sector.

This came during the minister’s meeting with Dimitrios Copelouzos, founder and chairman of the Copelouzos Group, to discuss the latest developments regarding the public offerings of Egyptian airports, as well as future investment opportunities in this field.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the progress achieved in this regard. This comes in light of the Egyptian government’s preparations to offer 11 airports to the private sector for operation and management, in co-operation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

This comes in light of the state’s strategy to enhance private sector participation in operating and managing vital facilities, and to develop the air transport system in accordance with the latest international standards.

For his part, Dimitrios Copelouzos expressed his sincere pleasure at meeting Minister El-Hefny, reaffirming his aspiration to deepen avenues of co-operation between both sides and to explore available investment opportunities in the civil aviation sector.

Copelouzos commended the remarkable progress witnessed by Egypt’s civil aviation sector and affirmed the Group’s desire to expand its investments in the operation and management of Egyptian airports.

Copelouzos pointed out that the Egyptian market is a promising destination for international investors, thanks to the major developmental transformation it has witnessed and the clear orientation towards a green economy.
