EgyptAir will host the 56th General Assembly of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) from November 17 to 19, 2024, highlighting Egypt’s leading role in the African aviation sector. The event is expected to attract around 400 prominent figures from the global civil aviation industry, including heads of African airlines and representatives from international organisations such as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Participants will also include civil aviation authorities, airport companies, aircraft manufacturers, and service providers.
Yehia Zakaria, Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company, expressed his excitement about hosting the event, stating, “We are pleased to host this important gathering, which reflects our commitment to supporting Africa’s aviation sector. It is a significant step in reinforcing Egypt’s position as a regional aviation hub.”
Zakaria highlighted AFRAA’s crucial role in promoting co-operation among its members to improve policies and programmes and develop international standards in coordination with global aviation organisations. He added, “We are confident that this assembly will foster stronger collaboration between African airlines and international organisations, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and address challenges facing the sector to drive development across the continent.”
Key issues to be discussed during the AFRAA General Assembly include enhancing co-operation among African airlines, airport infrastructure development, and streamlining air traffic. The agenda will also cover safety and security, environmental sustainability, and the adoption of modern aviation technologies.
EgyptAir first hosted the AFRAA General Assembly in 1969, a year after the Organisation’s establishment in 1968, and again in 2006.
