The Ministry of Civil Aviation is forging ahead with the development of Terminal 4 at Cairo International Airport, a strategic project poised to significantly enhance the nation’s aviation infrastructure.
This initiative, which aims to boost the airport’s annual capacity to 60 million passengers, integrates amazing technology and sustainable design principles.
The project’s progression was a key topic of discussion during a recent meeting between Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny.
Madbouli hailed the project as a “quantum leap” for airport services and infrastructure, emphasising its potential to serve as a global benchmark for airport design and operations.
El-Hefny provided a detailed overview of the project, noting that the new terminal is designed to handle an initial capacity of 30 million passengers annually.
He confirmed that its construction will adhere to the highest international standards for safety, security, and environmental sustainability.
The plan includes a new runway equipped with the latest navigation systems, a modern road network to ensure smooth traffic flow, and operational buildings built to global specifications. Additionally, the project highlights its commitment to environmental responsibility through the planned installation of solar panels to cover the extensive parking areas.

Ayman Arab, Chairman of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation, reinforced that Terminal 4 is a strategic expansion aimed at creating a passenger-centric experience.
He highlighted that the terminal will rely on advanced smart systems for air navigation, ground operations, and building management, all designed to maximise operational efficiency.
The project’s commercial and service zones will be thoughtfully designed based on passenger behavior, ensuring a personalised and seamless travel journey.
To inform the project’s design, Arab and his team have visited major international airports in China and Spain, studying the latest applications in big data analytics and digital solutions to ensure Terminal 4 is a model of technological leadership.
