Egypt and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) have celebrated 70 years of co-operation, marking the anniversary with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve air safety and airspace management.
The MoU was signed by Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmy and ICAO Secretary-General Juan Carlos Salazar at the Ministry of Civil Aviation headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
The agreement aims to improve all areas of safety in the civil aviation sector, provide effective solutions for the redesign of Egyptian airspace, and plan air routes to reduce flight time, increase airspace efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
The agreement also aims to accommodate more aircraft and increase air traffic to meet the growing demand for operations and achieve the highest levels of safety and air safety, in accordance with the principles and standards of international civil aviation.
Minister Helmy said that the MoU would allow Egypt to benefit from ICAO’s expertise and support in developing its civil aviation sector. He praised the ICAO’s role in ensuring the safety of passengers and global air traffic and its efforts to promote the development of civil aviation in various fields.
Salazar said that the agreement would strengthen co-operation between Egypt and ICAO and support the competitiveness of Egyptian airspace. He also expressed his appreciation for the work of Egyptian experts at ICAO.
The MoU was signed in the presence of a number of officials from Egypt and ICAO, including Dr Mohamed Helmy, Egypt’s permanent representative to ICAO, Georgi Antoniou, ICAO’s director of capacity development and implementation, Mohamed Rahma, ICAO’s director of air transport, and Mohamed Abu Bakr Fareed, ICAO’s regional director for the Middle East.
The signing of the MoU is a significant milestone in the long-standing co-operation between Egypt and ICAO.
It is a testament to the commitment of both sides to ensuring the safety and efficiency of civil aviation.
