A delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation participated in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) held in the United Arab Emirates.
The delegation participated in a side event within the conference’s events, where it presented a unified presentation on “Sustainable Development in the Egyptian Civil Aviation Sector towards Green Initiatives”.
The session highlighted the contribution of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation to the climate action agenda, and highlighted the work plan of EgyptAir and the Egyptian Airports Company to achieve sustainable development and how to address the risks of climate change.
Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas pointed out that the ministry is working in light of its ambitious plan to achieve the goals of sustainable development in various aviation activities.
It puts climate change issues and the use of clean energy at the top of its priorities in order to preserve the environment and constantly strive to implement the ambitious goal of zero carbon emissions in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The session highlighted the contribution of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to the climate action agenda and highlighted the work plan of EgyptAir and the Egyptian Airports Company to achieve sustainable development and how to address the risks of climate change in accordance with the United Nations goals in this framework and environmental commitments and procedures for reducing emissions.
In addition, the session discussed mechanisms for reaching zero carbon emissions by 2050; in addition to reviewing the challenges facing the air transport industry in the context of climate change, and focusing on ambitious goals to achieve a tangible environmental commitment and reduce the environmental impact of operations as well as enhancing opportunities for benefit, represented by the use of biofuels and the application of international procedures for reducing carbon emissions from aircraft in addition to the gradual elimination of single-use plastic that is harmful to the environment, which contributes to reducing fuel consumption by approximately 20%.
