Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar directed the formation of a ministerial committee headed by Bassem Abdel Karim, Assistant Minister of Civil Aviation for International Affairs and Information, with the membership of representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the bodies and companies affiliated with the ministry and the authorities concerned to prepare and coordinate to host the COP 27 climate summit, which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh on November 6-18, 2022.
Minister Manar confirmed that this comes in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to present the modern image of the new Egyptian state during Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 Climate Summit, and the need to shed light on the Egyptian state’s efforts in the field of environmental protection and green transformation.
Abdel Karim, Assistant Minister of Civil Aviation for International Relations and Information and Chairman of the Committee, stated that there is permanent and continuous coordination with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Environment, the United Nations Secretariat and the organizer of the event to find out all the recommended procedures.
Abdel Karim added that all preparations are being raised at Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh airports, pointing out that development work at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport is currently in full swing to be completed on time, in addition to the participation of the national company EgyptAir as an official carrier for the delegations participating in the event.
During the meetings, the civil aviation emissions file was discussed, and the efforts of the ministry and its subsidiaries were reviewed, as well as the logistical and technical work plans. It was also agreed to grant a reduction in EgyptAir’s international flights to the delegations participating in the conference, and to increase the number of flights between Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh during the period of its holding, and to put the conference logo on aircraft.
EgyptAir operates on international flights and operates flights from many countries of the world directly to Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, as well as showing a promotional film about the conference on board aircraft, preparing restrooms for senior visitors at Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh airports, and preparing an operating room to provide the necessary support and overcome all difficulties.
