Ministry of Civil Aviation is ramping up efforts to attract international investments and collaborate with global partners to enhance the country’s airport infrastructure and aviation sector. In recent meetings, the ministry emphasised its commitment to improving services, expanding airport capacities, and promoting environmentally friendly innovations.

Sameh El-Hefny, Minister of Civil Aviation, recently met with a high-level delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by Sue Barrett, Director of Infrastructure for Reconstruction. The discussions focused on potential co-operation in the aviation sector, particularly in sustainable projects, green energy, and infrastructure development. The bank expressed a strong interest in investing in sustainable fuel projects, aligning with Egypt’s goals to reduce carbon emissions and increase environmental efficiency.

El-Hefny welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the Egyptian government’s efforts to encourage private sector participation in infrastructure projects. He emphasised the importance of enhancing airport capacity, upgrading services to international standards, and promoting economic development through sustainable practices.

During the meeting, the EBRD outlined opportunities for financing and support in key sectors, including green energy and infrastructure. Barrett praised Egypt’s ongoing development initiatives and confirmed the bank’s interest in furthering its partnership with the Egyptian aviation sector, particularly in sustainable development and environmental initiatives.

In a separate meeting, El-Hefny also welcomed a delegation from the Greek Copelouzos Group, led by Chairman Dimitris Copelouzos, to explore future collaboration in airport management and operations. The discussions centered around joint projects to expand and modernize Egyptian airports, aligning with the ministry’s long-term plans for the sector.

Copelouzos expressed the group’s interest in investing in Egypt, highlighting their extensive experience in managing 14 regional airports in Greece. He praised Egypt’s rapid development in infrastructure, particularly in renewable energy, and expressed a keen interest in expanding investments in the country’s aviation sector.

Both meetings reflect Egypt’s strategy to position itself as a regional hub for aviation, leveraging international partnerships and investments to drive economic growth and modernise its aviation infrastructure.
