A delegation from the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN), led by Chairman and Managing Director Eng. Ayman Fawzy Arab, celebrated a significant achievement at the 34th ACI Africa General Assembly, where Egyptian airports secured the largest share of awards. The event, themed “Empowering African Airports to Achieve Strategic Growth,” highlighted Egypt’s leadership in sustainable and innovative airport management.

Cairo International Airport was honoured with the Larger Hub Leadership in Sustainability Award, recognising its commitment to sustainable practices.

In addition, Hurghada International Airport received the Zero Waste to Landfill Award, and Borg El Arab International Airport was awarded the Circular Waste Diversion Award, underscoring Egypt’s proactive approach to environmental stewardship within its aviation sector.

In his remarks, Eng. Ayman Arab stated that Egypt’s strong presence and award recognition at the conference underscore the leading position of its airports on the continent. “Egypt’s active role within ACI Africa sends a clear message of our nation’s commitment to supporting regional integration and enhancing the capabilities of African airports,” Arab said.

He emphasised that EHCAAN seeks to leverage such participation to exchange expertise and explore sustainable financing mechanisms, which are crucial for navigating global economic challenges and achieving balanced growth.

Arab further explained that Egypt’s extensive experience in airport management and infrastructure development positions it as a key supporter of the continent’s civil aviation initiatives. He highlighted that modern airports are no longer just travel gateways, but “strategic economic and investment assets” that play a pivotal role in driving development across Africa.

The delegation’s participation aligned with the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with international aviation organisations. As a founding and permanent member of the 15-member ACI Africa Board of Directors, Egypt continues to play an active role in shaping the future of the continent’s aviation landscape.

During the event, Arab was a keynote speaker at the “Unlocking Capital for Infrastructure Development” session, where he addressed critical topics such as attracting investment, managing financial risks, and exploring new financing models like development finance markets and public-private partnerships.

His participation reinforced Egypt’s dedication to creating a sustainable investment environment that supports airport development across the continent.
