Sameh el-Hefny, Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, concluded a visit to Heathrow International Airport during his official trip to the United Kingdom. Accompanying the Minister were Amani Metwally, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry; Ayman Fawzy Arab, Chairman of the Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation; and Ibrahim Fathy, Chairman of EgyptAir Maintenance and Technical Works.
The delegation toured the airport to gain insights into cutting-edge technologies and best practices in airport operations, safety, security, and passenger facilitation.
The tour focused on Terminal 2, also known as the Queen’s Building, where the delegation was received by Heathrow Airport’s Head of Terminal Operations, department directors, and the Chairman of the Airline Companies Committee. They observed the latest automated passenger check-in technologies designed to streamline travel procedures and discussed Heathrow’s advancements in enhancing the passenger experience for both departing and arriving travelers.
Particular attention was given to optimizing EgyptAir’s check-in services.
The delegation also examined the airport’s advanced baggage handling systems, designed to improve efficiency and reduce wait times, as well as security screening areas equipped with 3D imaging technology.
A concluding meeting with Heathrow officials explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation in integrated airport operations management (A-CDM) and flight slot management. Discussions centered on attracting more international airlines, improving connectivity, risk management, and advancements in baggage handling systems. Furthermore, the meeting addressed carbon emission reduction initiatives and streamlined border operations, aligning with global sustainability trends in civil aviation.
Minister el-Hefny expressed his appreciation for the visit, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to adopting international best practices to elevate safety standards and enhance the passenger experience.
He highlighted the importance of learning from leading international airports like Heathrow to benefit the Egyptian aviation sector and serve the interests of passengers.
