Seriousness, commitment, and enthusiasm are three words that encapsulate the spirit of the Egyptian Thunderbolt Forces.

The men making up these forces, part of the Armed Forces, dedicate their lives to serving the nation. They are always ready to sacrifice their lives to defend Egypt and its people, bearing the banner of victory or martyrdom.

These men are real heroes and the masters of impossible missions. They embody the steadfast doctrine of the Egyptian Army: defending the nation’s soil under all circumstances.

In an excellently organised visit by the Armed Forces’ Morale Affairs Department, a group of journalists, media professionals, and students from Beni Suef and Benha universities were granted the honour of witnessing the readiness of the Egyptian Thunderbolt Forces at their headquarters.

This experience was more than just a visit, but rather a window into the lives of men who possess exceptional combat efficiency, advanced weaponry, and unparalleled physical and mental preparation.

Amid the turbulent events unfolding in the region, what I saw during this visit gave me reassurance as an Egyptian citizen.

The Thunderbolt Forces are not merely a military unit. They are a protective shield against any internal or external threats.

The realistic drills we witnessed were proof of these heroes’ ability to face all challenges that face the nation.

The sight of soldiers executing combat missions that simulate reality was awe-inspiring.

Emerging suddenly from between rocks and trees, armed with modern weapons, they coordinated their movements as if they were a flawless, unified system.

The explosions and sound of gunfire replicated real battle conditions, showcasing the readiness and professionalism of the Thunderbolt Forces.

What stood out during the visit was the soldiers’ perspective. They do not see themselves merely as members of the army, but as children of the people, bearing the responsibility of protecting every Egyptian citizen.

This deep-rooted belief drives their readiness to sacrifice everything to ensure the security and safety of the nation.

The undeniable truth I took away from this experience is that the Egyptian Army is not just a military institution, but an integral part of the fabric of this nation.

The Thunderbolt Forces and other branches of the armed forces are our brothers and sons, carrying in their hearts a love for the homeland and an unwavering will to defend it, no matter the challenges.

At a time when we have witnessed the rapid disintegration of some regional armies, the readiness and competence of our forces make all Egyptians proud.

These men symbolise hope for maintaining Egypt’s security and stability in a world rife with conflicts.

The visit began with a documentary showcasing the origins of the Egyptian Thunderbolt Forces. It detailed the early days of this exceptional unit and its formation as one of the strongest combat forces in the world.

The idea of the Thunderbolt Forces dates back to 1954, when lieutenants Galal Haridy and Nabil Shukri were sent to the US Rangers School where they excelled, drawing the attention of American military leaders.

Upon their return to Egypt, they presented the idea of establishing an Egyptian Thunderbolt unit to the then-Minister of War. The founding group included Galal Haridy, Nabil Shukri, Mokhtar El-Far, Ahmed Mamdouh Ismail, and Samir El-Balushi, who proposed their vision to their commander, Major Ahmed Ismail, who in turn conveyed it to Field Marshal Abdel Hakim Amer.

In 1955, the first Thunderbolt school was inaugurated, welcoming heroes from various military branches who became part of this distinguished unit’s proud history, achieving remarkable accomplishments over the decades.

The Egyptian Thunderbolt Forces are not just a military power, but a symbol of resilience and determination.

Thanks to their efforts and sacrifices, we can sleep soundly, assured of our present and future.

These heroes are the living embodiment of Egypt’s strength and fortitude, and their constant readiness ensures that Egypt remains secure and powerful, no matter how great the challenges may be.
