Egypt boosts local ammunition production for self‑sufficiency
Egypt’s Minister of State for Military Production, Major General Salah Suleiman Gomblat, convened a meeting on Saturday with the chairmen of the boards of directors of the ministry’s affiliated companies engaged in ammunition production.
The meeting centred on the implementation of supply contracts, production plans and ongoing efforts to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
Held at the Ministry of Military Production headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, the meeting reviewed the progress of ammunition supply contracts and production plans, alongside measures to improve operational efficiency.
Bangkok Maersk makes maiden transit through Suez Canal
The container ship Bangkok Maersk completed its maiden transit of the Suez Canal on Saturday, joining the northbound convoy on its voyage from Italy to Singapore, according to Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie.
In a statement, Rabie said the vesselis 350 metres long, 56 metres wide, has a tonnage of 190,000 tonnes and a capacity of 17,200 TEUs.
Equipped with a dual‑fuel engine capable of running on green methanol, the ship is designed to reduce harmful carbon emissions. It operates on Maersk’s AE7 service, which links major Asian ports with Northern European and Mediterranean ports.
MLS fines Messi for striking an opponent
MIAMI — Major League Soccer fined Inter Miami’s Argentine superstar Lionel Messi an undisclosed amount for slapping Philadelphia’s Quinn Sullivan on the back of the neck in the clubs’ 2-2 draw.
The league’s disciplinary committee said it had levied the fine “for violating the league’s policy regarding hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent.”
Miami’s Ian Fray was fined an undisclosed amount for the same infraction, AFP reported.
Swedish police probe online networks after school attack
Swedish police are investigating whether an 18-year-old man who attacked students at a Swedish high school with a sword on Friday, killing one, was involved in online communities promoting school violence, a police source said.
The attacker struck at a school in the central Swedish town of Fagersta, also severely injuring two teenage boys before being arrested by police. The parents of a 17-year-old girl told local newspaper Fagersta-Posten that their daughter was killed in the attack.
Police are investigating whether a TikTok account that posted a picture of a sword 20 minutes before the assault belonged to the suspect, the source told Reuters. According to the Dagens Nyheter newspaper, the image appeared to have been taken in a restroom at the school.
