Social media users spoke last week about King Charles II being diagnosed with cancer; the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) deciding to appoint Hossam Hassan as a coach and a wave of criticism targeting Tucker Carlson after his interview with Russia President Vladimir Putin as he criticised the western media.
King Charles III diagnosed with cancer
Royal officials announced that King Charles III,75-year-old, was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer and is receiving treatment as an outpatient.
The palace said Charles, who has generally enjoyed good health, “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
Less than 18 months into the reign that he’d famously waited decades to begin, Charles suspended public engagements but will continue with state business – including weekly meetings with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak – and won’t be handing over his constitutional roles as head of state.
Buckingham Palace said the king’s cancer was found during Charles’ recent hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate but is a “separate issue” and not prostate cancer.
“Thankfully, this has been caught early,” Sunak told BBC radio, adding: “We’ll crack on with everything.”
“Many families around the country listening to this will have been touched by the same thing and they know what it means to everyone,” Sunak said. “So we’ll just be willing him on and hopefully we get through this as quickly as possible.”
Disclosing information about his cancer diagnosis – albeit in a limited way – is another break with tradition.
Buckingham palace said that the king “has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
Hossam Hassan Pharaohs’ new coach
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) decided to appoint Hossam Hassan as a coach of the Egypt football national team after Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria. Egypt sacked Victoria a week after their disappointing last-16 exit at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire. The EFA also announced Ibrahim Hassan as a team director.
Leading the Pharaohs is the 11th training station in Hossam Hassan’s history; he was the coach of Zamalek, Al Masry SC, Smouha SC, Al Ittihad Alexandria, Ismaily SC, Misr EL Makkasa SC, Pyramids and Telecom Egypt SC. This is along side the Jordan national football team and Modern Future FC.
He started his coaching career after retiring from football in 2008.
Criticism targets Tucker Carlson after Putin’s interview
A wave of criticism targeted Tucker Carlson after his interview with Russia President Vladimir Putin as he criticised the Western media, claiming that it doesn’t seek to know and present Putin’s perspective regarding Ukraine’s attack, the matter that irritated American and Russian journalists.
Tucker Carlson said that while the Western media carried out several interviews with President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, there wasn’t a Western journalist tried to interview President of the other implicated country, Vladimir Putin, adding that most of Americans don’t know the reason behind Putin’s attack of Ukraine or even his targets for the current situation; they didn’t hear him. This is a mistake.
In response to Carlson’s claiming, Western journalists announced that they held interviews with Putin .
Christiane Amanpour, the CNN anchor, criticising Tucker’s words, saying, “Does Tucker really think we journalists haven’t been trying to interview President Putin every day since his full scale attack of Ukraine? It’s absurd -we’ll continue to ask for an interview, just as we have for years now.”
Steve Rosenberg, a BBC correspondent, said that he sent several demands for an interview and the reply was always no.
It’s worth noting that Tucker’s interview with Putin is the first since Russia attacked Ukraine in February 2022.
Tucker was hugely influential as the anchor of a primetime political talk show between 2016 and 2023 and has since launched a show on X.

Al Nassr FC also posted a photo of Ronaldo with his teammates, commenting,“the birthday boy”.
