Social media users spoke last week about the death of 7 aid workers in Gaza; a Ramadan TV series highlighting the Palestinian cause entitled Miliha and millions of users globally reporting issues with Meta’s social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.
Miliha series topped trends
The holy month of Ramadan witnesses a huge wave of series, which tackles different topics. One of those series highlights the Palestinian cause entitled Miliha.
The series revolves around a Palestinian girl called Miliha who lives in Libya with her parents and grandparents who left Palestine after the First Intifada ( the first uprising) in 2000.
Miliha met the army officer Adham, portrayed by the Egyptian actor Diab, at the Egyptian-Libyan border while her family was attempting to return to Gaza via Egypt after terrorists bombed their homes in Libya, resulting in the death of her mother and father.
Miliha tries to renew their passports, of her and her grandma, to go back to Gaza.
The series starred Diab, Mervat Amin, Sereen Khass and Amir El-Masry, and was directed by Amr Arafa.
Meta’s social media platforms encounter global outage
Millions of users globally reported issues with Meta’s social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.
The technical problem was not confined to the UK; about 5,000 people faced issues with Instagram in the United States. At its peak, around 24,000 WhatsApp users also experienced problems, Reuters reported.
WhatsApp said in a post on the social media platform X: “We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we’re working on getting things back to 100 per cent for everyone as quickly as possible.”
Nearly 3,500 users in India and more than 7,000 in Brazil also reported problems with the platform, according to Downdetector.
After 3 hours of outage, WhatsApp posted on X: “And we’re back. Happy chatting!”
Nantes celebrated Moustafa Mohamed’s goal against Nice
The official page of the French club Nantes celebrated its victory against Nice in Ligue 1 by posting a picture of Moustafa Mohamed, the striker of the Egyptian national team and the scorer of the winning goal.
The official page of the club wrote, “The Pharaoh,” referring to Mohamed’s brilliant leadership of his team to secure the three points by beating Nice, 2-1.
Nantes soared its figures to 28 points to place in the 14th rank in the table of Ligue 1. The club collected its points through 27 matches, winning 8, drawing in 4 and losing 15.
Moustafa Mohamed, Anaconda, participated in 9 goals this season; he netted 8 goals in 23 matches and made one assist.
UK summons Israeli ambassador over death of aid workers
On Tuesday Britain summoned the Israeli ambassador over the deaths of aid workers in Gaza, the foreign ministry said, according to Reuters.
“I set out the Government’s unequivocal condemnation of the appalling killing of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers, including three British Nationals,” Britain’s Minister for Development and Africa, Andrew Mitchell, said.
“I requested a quick and transparent investigation, shared with the international community and full accountability.”
Separately, Foreign Secretary David Cameron posted on X that he had spoken with his Israeli counterpart Israel Katz to underline that the deaths were “completely unacceptable”.
“Israel must urgently explain how this happened and make major changes to ensure safety of aid workers on the ground,” Cameron said in the post.
Strong quake struck Taiwan
A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan, in which nine people were killed and more than 900 injured, while 50 workers traveling in minibuses to a hotel in a national park were missing.
While some people were spending the night in tents and other shelters, scores of emergency workers were trying to shore up damaged buildings and demolish those deemed impossible to save.
This quake is deemed the biggest one occurred in at least 25 years in Taiwan.
More than 50 aftershocks were recorded, weather officials said.
“I’m afraid of aftershocks, and I don’t know how bad the shaking will be,” a 52-year-old Hualien resident, who gave her family name as Yu, said as she made her way to a shelter.
