Sharm el-Sheik is probably Egypt’s most famous resort on the Red Sea.
The resort deservedly acquired its fame, thanks to its wonderful nature and state of the art infrastructure which makes it a heaven for vacationers.
Nonetheless, some of Sharm el-Sheikh’s beaches stand out as exceptionally attractive, even as the Red Sea resort has an abundance of these beaches.
Ras Umm Sid beach is one of these. The beach has the privilege of being located in close proximity to a large number of tourist facilities that bring all types of services very close to it.
It is located in the southern part of Sharm el-Sheikh which is located in southern Sinai.
The location of the beach and Sharm el-Sheikh as a whole makes them a permanent host of the rays of the sun. Nonetheless, the temperature during daytime is always suitable for all types of entertainment activities.
Probably this is why Ras Umm Sid is called by some people as the ‘Golden Beach’. It is actually called so on a large number of maps of Sharm el-Sheikh and Sinai.
This name also best fits the real colour of the sands of the beach which assume a golden nature.
Sand grains of medium size, sometimes resembling pebbles, fill Ras Umm Sid beach. This is especially true to the edges of the beach from the west and the east where it is surrounded by low stone cliffs and reefs of sandstone and coral sediments.
The beach is quite wide. However, throughout its entire space, Ras Umm Sid beach is covered with canopies and lawn chairs for vacationers.
Some of these canopies and chairs are owned by the restaurants overlooking the beach, which send their staff members every now and then to serve guests and deliver orders to them.
Other chairs and canopies are arranged specifically for hourly rental to those who need them.
The beach is roughly divided in half by a small rounded stone cape.
To go swimming in the waters of the Red Sea from it, one needs to go down a small staircase. To the right and the left, the water directly approaches the edge of the sand. The sea is shallow and the bottom is mostly sandy without stones and debris of coral.
For almost ten metres, the depth of the water does not even reach one and a half metres. Then there is a small descent down to a depth of about two and a half metres.
The bottom in this area is also mostly sand, but there may already be separate stones and corals. The width of the line is 30 to 50 metres.
Beyond this bathing area is a line of coral with varying depths.
May and June are opportune times for vacationing in Sharm el-Sheikh which is always the most sought-after resort in the region at this time of the year.
Weather conditions in these two months are exceptionally beautiful. The same applies to September and October.
The beach is in fact the central part of the resort area. It is surrounded by a large number of hotels.
Numerous roads approach the coast. Standing beside the sandy edge of the beach is a wide promenade.
Getting to Ras Umm Sid beach from other parts of Sharm el-Sheikh is easy. Those who want to arrive in the beach need to follow the el-Fanar highway to the south to the point where it practically rests on the sea.
There are several diving schools near the beach where Egyptian instructors teach visitors how to go diving.
There is also an official Diving Centre which is located in the back of the hotel complex.
