Egypt received the “Best Heritage Destination” award at the World Tourism Awards during a vibrant ceremony at the Global Tourism Forum Annual Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, alongside celebrations for 100 leading tourism changemakers.
This distinguished recognition highlights Egypt’s remarkable efforts to preserve its unique historical and cultural heritage, as well as its dedication to sharing these treasures with travellers from around the world.
In his speech, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy highlighting the recent growth in Egyptian tourism, which has seen visitor numbers rise by an impressive 21 per cent so far this year compared to last year.
The Minister also highlighted recent successes, including Egypt’s achievement in having the storied Abu Mena Monastery near Alexandria removed from UNESCO’s list of World Heritage in Danger, a testament to the country’s unwavering commitment to heritage conservation.
He discussed projects to protect and restore Egyptian antiquities and the importance of international archaeological missions, noting that nearly 300 foreign archaeological teams, alongside Egyptian missions, are actively working across the country and making significant discoveries.
This global recognition celebrates Egypt’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding its unparalleled cultural legacy and inspiring visitors worldwide to discover the wonders of its rich past and vibrant present.
