Dr Khaled Tawfik, Professor of Translation and Linguistics at Cairo University’s Faculty of Arts, has been chosen as the most influential figure in the Arab world.
This recognition came through a ballot organised by Torgman al-arab, a leading organisation in translation, Arabisation and training based in Dubai. The 15-day voting process, which concluded on December 1, saw thousands of Arabs casting their votes for one of the thirty distinguished characters, including writers, translators, thinkers and trainers.
Tawfik emerged victorious, securing 51 per cent of the votes, with the remaining votes split among the others.Tawfik is the author and translators of 57 books and known to have established the Translation Programme in the Faulty of Arts, Cairo University.
He was honoured by different institutions and organisations including the AUC, Middle East News Agency, Damanhour University, Suez Canal University, King Abdulaziz University and many others.
