The 29th edition of the World Air Transport Conference and Exhibition, “Routes World 2024,” was held in the Kingdom of Bahrain from October 6 to 8, hosted for the first time by Bahrain International Airport, operated by Bahrain Airport Company, in collaboration with the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority and the Economic Development Board.
Sarah Ahmed Buhiji, CEO of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, stated that this event is one of the largest specialized aviation industry gatherings, featuring over 2,300 prominent figures from the aviation sector, representing 230 airlines and 530 airports worldwide. She emphasized that the infrastructure is ready to host such international events in Bahrain, highlighting the partnership between the tourism and aviation sectors in the country.
Buhiji noted that the focus is on welcoming tourists and visitors to Bahrain, offering the best tourism programs, whether cultural or cruise-based. She mentioned that Bahrain boasts three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as the heritage market in Muharraq and the Formula racing tourism experience.
Buhiji concluded by stating that there is significant cooperation with Egypt, particularly in the area of inbound tourism between Bahrain and Egypt.
The opening ceremony at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre was attended by Mohammed bin Thamer Al-Kaabi, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications; Fatima bint Jaafar Al-Sairafi, Minister of Tourism; Khalid Hussain Taqi, Chairman of Gulf Air Group Holding Company; and several distinguished guests.
