Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy, Bassam Rady, has participated, alongside the Italian President Sergio Mattarella, in a celebration marking the 200th anniversary of establishing the Egyptian Museum in Turin. The event, which was organised by the city of Turin, was attended by the Italian Minister of Culture, the Mayor of Turin, and a host of senior Italian officials, as well as an Egyptian delegation led by Minister of Tourism Sherif Fathy, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and the Director of the Egyptian Museum.Ambassador Rady emphasised that the participation of the Italian President and high-ranking officials highlights the depth of Egyptian-Italian relations and their appreciation of Egypt’s ancient civilisation.
The event celebrates the advanced partnership achieved between the two nations over the past two years and reflects the deep cultural and historical connections between their peoples, he said.Radi described the event as an opportunity to enhance bilateral, regional, and international co-operation, building on the contributions of both the Egyptian and Roman civilisations to humanity throughout history.
He also voiced gratitude to the Italian government, the city of Turin, and the museum’s administration for their efforts in presenting Egypt’s Pharaonic history and developing modern museum displays using cut-edge technology, a source of pride for Egyptians.
The Egyptian Museum in Turin, founded in 1824, is the largest museum of Egyptian antiquities outside Egypt. It houses over 30,000 original artifacts and attracts millions of visitors annually, recording one million visitors last year. The celebration included the inauguration of a new gallery dedicated to Queen Nefertari’s funerary artifacts.
