Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) Secretary General Dr Mostafa Waziry and Anba Lucas, Bishop of Abnoub, al-Fateh, and New Assiut on Wednesday signed an agreement to restore and build a wall around the Monastery of St. Mina el-Agaibi archaeological site in Assiut Governorate.
Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church witnessed the signing ceremony.
Waziry said that the project comes within the framework of the keenness of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities represented by the SCA to pay attention to archaeological buildings of various historical eras throughout the country. The work is scheduled to begin soon.
The monastery, which dates back to the 4th century AD, is 170 metres up Mount Abnoub is on the east bank of the Nile, 25 km north of the city of Abnoub.
