Egyptian Ministry of Culture is organising 1000 artistic and intellectual events in Cairo and the governorates at its venues and online to celebrate the 48th anniversary of the 1973 war victory.
Minister of Culture Enas Abdel-Dayem said the October victory is an immortal memory of the enthusiasm of the Egyptians and their ability to face challenges, while embodying national unity, manifested in the people’s solidarity with the armed forces to achieve the great victory.
During the month of October the ministry is organising the following events.
- The Supreme Council of Culture
Supreme Council of Culture, of which the secretary is Dr Hisham Azmy is giving a lecture ‘The October War in Drama, Music and Literature’ at 6pm,Wednesday, October 6 on its website.
- The Cairo Opera House
The Egyptian Opera House, led by Dr Magdy Saber, is organising an artistic celebration showcasing music by young talent under the supervision of artist Abdel Wahab al-Sayed Wednesday evening, October 6 at the Fountain Theatre.
At the el-Gomhouria Theater on October 8, the Modern Dance Troupe will perform ‘Ahmose’, directed by Mahmoud Mostafa.
The Alexandria Opera Troupe for Arabic Music and Singing also will stage two concerts of national at the Alexandria and Damanhour Opera Houses on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 October.
- The National Books and Documents House
The National Books and Documents House, headed by Dr Nevine Mohamed, will during the month of October hold a symposium and exhibition ‘October War between the Front and the Press’ in co-operation with the Cultural Development Fund and the Egypt Public Library, with the participation of Dr Tariq el-Taher and Major-General Hamdi Labib Othman at the Egyptian Public Library on October 10.
Another symposiumto be held will be ‘Testimonies of the October War’ and a document exhibition in the Ali Mubarak Hall at Dar al-Kutub, in which Major General Mohamed Salah Aref, Staff Brigade of War and strategic expert Muhammad el-Ghubari and Fawzy Abu Al-Taher, one of the symbols of popular resistance, and researchers from the Egyptian History Centre on October 21.
- National Centre for Translation
The National Centre for Translation, headed by Dr Karma Sami is publishing the latest part of ‘October War Documents’ and will holds a book symposium and a signing ceremony, plus a discussion of the book ‘Once Upon a Time in Egypt’ translated by Ali Fahmy Abdel Salam and Anwar Ibrahim about the heroes of the War of Attrition and how it paved the way for the October victory
- The Cultural Production Sector
The cultural production sector headed by director Khaled Galal is organising its annual celebration of the October Victory, during officers, fighters and leaders of the October War are honoured.
- The General Authority for Cultural Palaces
The General Authority for Culture Palaces, headed by director Hisham Atwa, is organising a programme to celebrate the October victory and bring cultural events to all governorates with poetry recitals, discussion of literary works on the October War, films showing the heroism of the armed forces, and storytelling workshops for children.
- The Fine Arts Sector
The Fine Arts Sector headed by Dr Khaled Sorour is organising 16 activities this month with art workshops for children, poetry evenings, and seminars in museums and its affiliated art centres. On Wednesday, October 6, a symposium ‘Crossing, Determination and Will’ accompanied by an art exhibition at Wakala Al-Ghouri will be staged. A seminar on the role of the media at the front is slated for Wednesday 6 October at the Mahmoud Saeed Museum. There will also be a poetry evening ‘In Love with Egypt’ on October 14 and another poetry evening ‘Egypt and Victory Days’ on October 20 at the Civilisation Cinema Centre. Artist Hamdi Abdullah will be holding an exhibition at Al-Jazeera Centre at 7pm on October 6. There will also be two exhibitions by artists Taha Ashmawi and Hani Megally at the Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Centre on October 6 at 6 pm, while an exhibition of artist Dr Ahmed Nabil will be held at Al-Bab Hall on October 5.
- The Artistic House of Theatre
The Artistic House of Theatre headed by the artist Ismail Mokhtar is presenting performances to celebrate 6 October in six governorates within the Decent Life rural development initiative, among them Amr Taklif (An Assignment Order) directed by Basem Qinawy will be presented in the Zefta Center in Gharbia Governorate until Wednesday October 6, in Sharkia Governorate from Thursday 7 October until Monday 11 October, while the show ‘Sahina Ya Sina’ directed by Essam Al-Shuwaikh will be at Damietta Culture Palace until October 8 and in Gharbia Governorate from October 9-13. The show ‘Crossing and Victory’ directed by Mohamed Al-Khouli will be presented at the Ismailia Culture Palace theatre until October 9 and at Suez Culture Palace Theatre from October 10-12.
- The Artistic House of Folklore
The Artistic House of Folklore, headed by the artist Adel Abdo, is holding concerts on October 17, 18, 20 and 21 by the Folk Music Ensemble and the Youth Live Band performing national songs.
- Academy of Arts
The Academy of Arts, headed by Dr Ghada Jabara is staging a concert by the Umm Kulthum music troupe, and another for the Orchestra of the Higher Institute of Conservatoire with the children’s choir.
- Cultural Development Fund Sector
The Cultural Development Fund Sector, headed by Dr Fathi Abdel Wahab is organising a poetic evening ‘The Glorious October, the Song of a Homeland, the Joy of a Martyr’ at 6pm on October 6 at Talaat Harb Cultural Centre. The Semsemya Troupe of the General Authority for Cultural Palaces will be performing at 7pm on October 10 at Al-Ghouri Dome, the October Victories operetta will be presented by children with special abilities at 6pm on October 17 at the Freedom Center for Creativity.
- The National Centre for Child Culture
The National Centre for Child Culture, headed by writer Mohamed Abdel Hafez Nassef is staging the Al-Aragoz (puppet show), folk arts, storytelling, black theatre, an exhibition of children’s drawings about 6 October, Tanoura dance, art workshops, and the Choir of Peace will be celebrating the victories of October at Al-Gomhouria theatre at 7pm, Sunday, October 10.
- Ministry of Culture YouTube channel
The Ministry of Culture is celebrating the Great Victory Day on its YouTube channel from 2pm until midnight with a broadcast of Field Marshal Al-Jamasi’s memories of the October War. It will also screen three documentaries about the October War with rare footage never seen before.
