The Union of International Translators has honored Dr Khaled Mahmoud Tawfik, Professor of Translation Studies and Linguistics at the Department of English at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University and the American University on the occasion of International Translation Day.
The honoring, the union said in a statement, rests on Tawfik’s abundant and distinguished contributions to the science of translation, in addition to his tangible role in enhancing the role of translation and its importance in the process of civilized communication between the Arabic and English languages.
“Dr Tawfik was and still at the forefront of Arab translators in recent times in providing various translations that enrich the Arabic and Egyptian libraries,” the union said of Dr Tawfik.
Dr Tawfik said he is happy with this honour from the International Union of Translation. “I consider it a strong motivation to exert more effort in various fields of translation,” he added.
Tawfik noted that translation sciences are so diverse that the translator does his best to improve his work. He points out that Egypt and the Arab world have a plethora of distinguished and skilful translators, who are working round the clock to transfer sciences and literature into foreign languages and vice versa.
Tawfik thanked Cairo University President Mohamed Othman el-Khosht for his support to faculty members in various fields.
This support made the university occupy an advanced position in the list of the best 1000 universities worldwide.
Dr Tawfik is the author of dozens of books and scientific researches related to translation, its literature and arts; moreover he also supervised many master’s and doctoral dissertations.
