Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa on Monday met with a delegation from the international company META to explore how to use modern technologies in the tourism and antiquities sector.
They discussed how to use metaverse technology to promote digital tourism for Egyptian destinations and cities, and how to raise tourism and archaeological awareness among local youth and tourists.
They also discussed how to use virtual reality to enhance the tourist experience in antiquities museums in Egypt by providing pictures and information about the artefacts through the company’s social media platforms and mobile applications.
META Regional Director Fares Akkad said the company’s social media platforms and mobile apps will offer visitors a virtual tour of the ancient Egyptian artefacts in the museums.
They will be able to see the original appearance of the pieces as they were created thousands of years ago. This will educate and entertain the young generation, Akkad said.
The company has already applied this experiment to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation and the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.
