President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Wednesday that the manufacture of plasma derivatives in Egypt was a dream come true.
The first plasma derivatives factory is to open in 18 months’ time, the president said in statements during an inspection of equipment and machinery used for the rural development initiative Decent Life.
The president said he dreamt of the project when he was a defence minister. Seven years later, the dream has come true, thanks to government efforts, he added.
During his tour, President Sisi said the state will bear the cost of treating muscle atrophy in newborn children, which costs $3 million per child.
The government has signed agreements with international companies specialised in treating this disease, the president said, adding that the Health Ministry will start scanning for the disease in infants aged 6-12 months. When a child reaches two years old, treatment becomes difficult, he said.
The president urged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to participate in and contribute to this project through the Tahya Misr (Long Live Egypt) Fund.
There are 204 muscle atrophy cases registered until now including 57 cases under two years and 32 cases that need to be treated immediately.
