Sanofi Pasteur Egypt, a pioneer in the field of vaccines, launched the innovative Hexaxim vaccine which protects against 6 different major infectious diseases for infants and children. The new vaccine contains a single liquid formula for the primary and booster vaccination of infants and young children starting six weeks to provide effective protection against diseases such as Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Poliomyelitis, Haemophilus influenza type B, and Hepatitis B.
In this context, Professor Dr. Ahmed El-Bliedi, Professor of Pediatrics, Cairo University, said: “In light of the World Health Organization and UNICEF warnings against reducing the number of vaccinations during Covid-19, the innovative Hexaxim is coming to support the maintenance of our children’s health. As studies have shown that the Hexaxim vaccine provides the required protection and reduces clinic visits at the same time. He added, “This innovation came at the right time to improve our daily lives, especially in light of the spread of COVID-19, as parents fear that many health care clinics will be visited frequently for vaccinations, and we as doctors need to provide time for the crucial patients and this is what the Hexaxim vaccine came to achieve.”
In regard to the laboratory components of the Hexaxim vaccine, Dr. Hisham Awad, Professor of Pediatrics at Ain Shams University, indicated that the new Hexaxim vaccine contains an acellular pertussis antitussive that provides a smoother experience after vaccination for infants and parents, as well as IPV, which strengthens the immune system and also provides more protection from multiple types of polio. He added, “The Hexaxim vaccine is the only Hexagonal combined childhood vaccine that has undergone a pre-validation process by the World Health Organization.”
In this context, Dr. Motaza Bashir, Professor of Pediatrics at Cairo University, said: “Among the challenges that parents face nowadays are the multiple vaccination visits and the various number of injections that are used with children to protect them from diseases. Therefore the new Hexaxim vaccine helps overcome this challenge because it reduces the number of vaccination visits and the number of injections, and it may encourage parents to complete the recommended schedule of vaccinations to protect their children from some infectious diseases.”
While Dr. Nabil Fawzy, Consultant Pediatrics, stated: “The Hexaxim vaccine also provides ease and comfort during our daily practice in clinics, as it is considered a 6-in-1 innovative vaccine and ready-to-use liquid syringe, single dose, which means avoiding potential mistakes in recombination and less time for the vaccine preparation, which provides more time for important discussions with parents and acceptance of more patients who need our care.”
It is worth noting that Hexaxim vaccine is considered one of the achievements of Sanofi Pasteur, as it contributes to saving children from diseases that can be prevented by vaccines. Furthermore, it is considered an innovative and a convenient solution for children who are vaccinated to acquire protection from 6 diseases with less pain, and this is reflected in the child’s family as the vaccination of their children becomes less stressful by saving time and effort. As for the healthcare professionals side, they will have a smoother and more effective vaccination session.
