Rosatom is participating in Africa Health ExCon to present its products in the field of nuclear medicine. In this regard, we had an interview with with Anton Abramov (Director of Strategy, Integration and International Business, Rusatom Healthcare)
- What is the purpose of Rosatom’s participation in this exhibition, what result does Rosatom expect?
The market of the African continent and Egypt, as the flagship country of the continental economy, are today a strategically important direction for us to develop cooperation. Rusatom Healthcare is a division of the largest Russian state corporation Rosatom, which accumulates the entire expertise of Rosatom in the field of healthcare. We see great potential in the development of effective and mutually beneficial relations with the Arab Republic of Egypt in terms of increasing the availability of high-tech medical care for the population of the country. The purpose of our participation in the Africa Health ExCon Exhibition and Conference, first of all, is to demonstrate integrated healthcare solutions for the medical and business community, get to know potential partners, and continue to communicate with existing partners.
- What does Rosatom offer in the field of nuclear medicine for Egypt and the North African market?
If we talk about the possibilities of Rosatom, which we offer to partners from Egypt, they are very wide. Now Rosatom is one of the top 5 largest global suppliers of isotope products. In addition, we produce radiopharmaceuticals such as iodine, samarium, strontium, technetium generators, and others.
But we do not plan to be limited only by the existing production and intend to expand activities in this direction, including jointly with partners from Egypt. Today in Russia we are building a plant for the production of radiopharmaceuticals, which will become one of the largest in the world and the largest in terms of the range of drugs produced. The plant will be accredited according to the GMP (good manufacturing practice) standards recognized all over the world. The supply of radiopharmaceuticals for the needs of Egyptian doctors and patients is included in our plans, as is the joint development of new drugs.
In addition, Rosatom has extensive expertise in the development and production of equipment for nuclear medicine. Such as cyclotron complexes, devices for radiation and brachytherapy. MRI machines are currently under development. In terms of equipment, we are ready both to supply ready-made devices to Egypt and to jointly develop new models that will help the people of Egypt receive high-quality and effective treatment.
Nuclear medicine equipment and radiopharmaceuticals require special operating conditions. Rosatom has a lot of experience in this. We are building nuclear medicine centers where services are provided directly to patients in need of treatment. The construction of medical infrastructure facilities for the citizens of the Arab Republic of Egypt is another opportunity for cooperation. I see the great interest of partners in our expertise and I am sure that cooperation between Rosatom and the Republic of Egypt will be effective, strategic and mutually beneficial, and most importantly, will help increase the availability of high medical technologies for the population of the country.
- What are your impressions of Egypt and the exhibition?
We highly appreciate the level of organization and holding of the exhibition, as well as the results achieved. We have signed partnership agreement with the leading Egyptian pharmaceutical company Pharco Pharmaceuticals. We are focused on a long-term mutually beneficial strategic partnership.
