Egypt’s Health Minister Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has spoken highly of a 2024 report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that sheds light on an Egyptian case study on the elimination of hepatitis C virus in the country.
This was part of a plan to achieve the sustainable development goals, the minister noted.
The WHO report pinpointed five factors that contributed to the success of the programme namely, an accurate disease database, a strong healthcare infrastructure, a comprehensive healthcare system, an increased spending on healthcare and the use of innovation and IT, said Health Ministry spokesman Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar Wednesday.
In 2023, Egypt became the first country to achieve the “gold tier” status on the path to elimination of hepatitis C as per WHO criteria.
