Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed Tuesday followed up final preparations for the national plasma donation project when she inspected the plasma bank in Abbasiya.
The donation project comes in line with a presidential initiative on self-sufficiency in plasma derivatives.
The project, implemented in cooperation with Grifols, the Spanish producer of blood plasma-based products, is part of government efforts to fulfill the presidential initiative.
Plasma-derived medicinal products are industrially obtained from human plasma. They include protein products such as albumin, clotting factors, and antibodies, which are used as a treatment for acute life-threatening diseases.
Zayed inspected the centre’s donation room, plasma separators, the plasma storage unit, where the sample specifications are recorded electronically with an identification code and then refrigerated, health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said.
