CAIRO – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar Tuesday announced hosting the first meeting of the health ministers of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic Co-operation (D-8) by Egypt.
The three-day event is attended by health ministers, senior officials, and experts of Member States, in implementation of item no.40 of the Cairo Declaration issued by the D-8 Summit.
The declaration stipulates that Egypt to host the first D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Health, in 2025, to discuss measures to advance preventative, therapeutic and rehabilitative health care, and to accelerate universal health coverage in D-8 Member States, through the inclusion of women and youth, not only as recipients of health care, but also as partners, in health policy making and implementation, including through utilizing digital technology and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
The first day of the event featured four technical sessions that addressed practical avenues in public health systems and disease prevention, maternal, newborn, and child health, pharmaceutical manufacturing and vaccine access, and digital health and data systems.
While delivering the inaugural opening speech, Deputy Minister of Health and Population. Abla El Alfy welcomed the D-8 delegations, stressing that this meeting represents a historic starting point for a joint health path that unites over 1.1 billion people.
