Egypt has a strong monitoring system and is in close contact with all the global health institutions to follow up on any developments related to Covid-19, affirmed Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.
The new China mutant strain of Covid-19 is not worrying, he added during a phone-in with “Kelma Akhira” show on ONTV Monday evening.
Abdel Ghaffar, meanwhile, confirmed that the epidemiological situation of Covid-19 is stable in Egypt.
Egypt has 27 units that monitor respiratory viruses, he said, noting that until the first week of January 2023, most of the detected cases were infected with seasonal flu and the respiratory syncytial virus.
Citizens must return to wearing face masks, adhere to social distancing, wash hands with running water and soap, added the spokesman, urging those who are less than 60 to take the booster shot after six months of taking the last dose.
He also urged those who are over 60 and suffer from chronic diseases to take the booster shot after three months of receiving the last dose.
