The Egyptian Drug Authority has meanwhile granted an emergency license for the use of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, emphasizing in a statement that the move is part of the .
state’s efforts to contain the novel coronavirus infection and provide citizens with vaccines that prove effective in combating the virus.
The move also reflects keenness on following all global and local standards in order to protect the health of citizens through providing them with safe, efficient and high-quality vaccines, the Authority said in its statement.
Authority spokesman Ali Al-Ghamrawy explained that the licensed vaccine is produced by the Indian Serum Institute, which contracted the transfer the vaccine’s manufacturing technology from the British company AstraZeneca.
The head of the Central Administration for Biological and Innovative Preparations at the Egyptian Drug Authority, Mahmoud Yassin, said that this vaccine is the second to obtain an emergency use license from the Authority after the Sinophram vaccine. The Authority, he added, is currently studying and evaluating other vaccines. This comes as part of the competence of the Egyptian Drug Authority to examine and analyze medical and biological preparations in accordance with international standards and references, to ensure the quality, efficacy and safety of all such preparations.
