More than 100 female artists from 35 counties will participate in the first edition of the Empower Her Art Forum on May 20 at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation in Old Cairo’s Fustat.
The forum, which runs until May 24, is organised by Artoday, an Egyptian-International social enterprise.
Artoday Managing Director and Co-founder Reem Dwidar told The Egyptian Gazette that the forum will be held annually and every edition will be in a different country to support and celebrate women around the world.
This edition features a diverse collection of art forms such as painting, digital art, sculpture, installation, photography and NFTs.
The guests of honour are the French sculptor Camille Claudel and Egyptian artist Zainab El-Segini.
“Workshops will be held in collaboration with three associations, Baheya where women surviving cancer will participate in workshops given by foreign artists,” Dwidar said.
“At the end of the workshops, participants can do their own drawings and sell them at the exhibition. The same thing will happen with participating refugees from the UNHCR and children with special needs from Awladna Foundation,” Dwidar said.
She added that blind and visually impaired people can also come and join the forum activities.
“We will display descriptions and artists statements in Braille next to the artworks,” she said.
The forum will include panel discussions on different topics on May 23.
The forum will be held under the auspices of the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, Social Solidarity, Culture, Environment in addition to the National Council for Women.
Embassies of Belgium, Italy, Türkiye, Germany and Spain in addition to the EU, UN Women and UNHCR are among the partners of the event.
